Today, Australian-bred producer KITO and LA-based songstress Empress Of share a visual for their single “Wild Girl.” KITO collaborated closely with directing duo Mister, made up of Miche Sieg and Rose Chirillo (KITO’s own housemate), to create the visual, which features several friends of the artists including Icona Pop, Kacy Hill, and Empress Of’s own mother letting loose and dancing in their own striking styles. The track’s video, acts as the ideal visual counter-point to the song’s theme about living in the moment and unleashing your inner wild side – a bold introduction to what is sure to be an industrious year for both artists.
“Wild Girl” is the first track to come after KITO’s announcement of signing to Astralwerks, and is sure to be the first of many exciting collaborations on her new project. As a producer and songwriter she developed her distinct sound while growing up in Australia and later living in London, garnering worldwide notoriety by DJing and releasing music independently. With early cosigns by the likes of Diplo, KITO made the move to Los Angeles to focus on her own project while remaining an in-demand producer, amassing millions of record sales for modern soul icons and pop royalty alike such as Jorja Smith’s “The One” and Banks’ “Gimme,” on top of working with Elley Duhé, Kodie Shane, Trinidad James, and Kanye West-producer Hudson Mohawke on her independent releases.
Under the name Empress Of, Honduran-American vocalist/songwriter Lorely Rodriguez is creating introspective, self-empowering pop music centered around her impressive, acrobatic vocals. On her 2015 debut album, Me, she established a danceable, spontaneous sound that embraced whimsicality and percussiveness. With her 2018 sophomore album, Us, Rodriguez wanted to facilitate a more equal exchange of energy between herself and her listeners, to create a community. “It’s not just love songs. It’s about different experiences of the heart,” she says. “I want it to be like a mirror, and [the audience] sees a little bit of themselves in every song.” Empress Of has been touring her sophomore album Us around the world for the last year with headline dates and a string of shows opening for Lizzo and Maggie Rogers.
