Julia Bardo’s debut EP Phase, out now via Wichita Recordings, and its singles “I Wanna Feel Love” and “Please Don’t Tell Me,” have been earning the Manchester, UK-based Italian artist press attention from outlets including Bandcamp Daily, NPR Music (New Music Friday playlist), The FADER, Harper’s Bazaar (“The Best Love Songs of 2020 (So Far)”), Gorilla vs. Bear, Talkhouse, Brooklyn Vegan, The Line of Best Fit, The Guardian, and more. To celebrate, Bardo is playing a handful of March UK shows, including a headlining London show at Pin Ups on March 19th; see below for a full itinerary of upcoming dates.
Bardo’s musical road began in Brescia, a small city in Northern Italy where she sang and wrote lyrics for a local band between shifts at her father’s bar. After finding herself disheartened and uninspired, her next phase took her courageously to Manchester, where she would develop her striking, singular style as a solo musician. Phase marks a facet of this ambitious evolution, and represents an artist’s quest to make music that is entirely her own. “For me, music is about healing what is hurt inside of me. I heal by writing and talking about what troubles me. I’ve always been very lonely, and I’ve always been very emotional—these things inform my music quite a bit.”
