LA-based pop artist Jordi Up Late shares “Same Moon,” alongside a stunning self-animated music video that recently won a Bronze Award at the Los Angeles Animation Fest. Reflective and emotive, “Same Moon” will lull listeners into a heartbreaking sort of trance. Cool Hunting premiered the track, praising it as “magnetic” and declaring it “a rumination on the path between anticipation and loneliness.”
Says Jordi Up Late on the song: “Same Moon” is about cosmic energy tying us to people in our future who we are destined to love but have yet to meet. I’ve never really been in love, only in like or in lust. I get anxious about wanting to feel that sensation but in the end I’m patient and okay with waiting – not forcing emotions that aren’t there. The song is about having faith in the nature of the unknown.
The music video explores a collection of meditative spaces and life forms which evolve and reveal matter to the pulse of the void and the cosmic map. The medium is composite hand drawn animation which I created during my thesis at RISD and adapted for this music video as both themes aligned perfectly. The spaces reveal a loneliness which speaks to the longing of the song however the life follows an experimental and unexpected path which leads us to something whole.
