The Chattanooga Mocs cracked the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 this week. Coming off a 24-13 win over No. 11 Wofford, UTC checks in at No. 18 for the first time this season.
The Mocs are ranked for the first time under head coach Rusty Wright. The last time UTC was in the top 25 was Week 5 of the 2018 season. Coming off a 27-20 win over No. 17 Samford, UTC took a No. 20 national ranking to ETSU where they fell to the Buccaneers 17-14 on Sept. 29.
UTC held the Wofford triple-option attack to less than 200 yards (199 = 148 rush + 51 pass) of total offense for the first time since 177 yards at North Dakota State on Dec. 9, 2017. It was the Mocs’ first win over Wofford since a 20-17 win on Oct. 24, 2015, snapping a four-game losing streak in the series.
It was also the Mocs’ first win over a ranked team since a 23-21 win at No. 8 Samford on Oct. 28, 2017, and the highest ranked home win since a 38-17 win over No. 10 Jacksonville State on Sept. 10, 2011.
Other notables in the rankings include James Madison, who takes over the top spot after Southern Illinois ended North Dakota State’s 39-game winning streak with a 38-14 win in Carbondale, Ill., on Saturday. Furman drops from 10th to No. 17 after a 14-13 loss to VMI. Wofford is No. 20, while the Keydets are receiving votes.
Up next for Chattanooga is a trip to The Citadel. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) on Saturday, March 6, at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Fans can catch the game on the Mocs Sports Network on 97.7 FM/1070 AM WFLI or ESPN+.
