The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend. The Mocs visit North Alabama on Friday and Kennesaw State on Sunday in non-conference action.
UTC is off to a strong 7-1 start to the spring dual season. The Mocs have won two in a row and have four non-conference matches left before starting SoCon play on March 19 at Mercer.
“The team is excited to take on some good outdoor programs this weekend,” stated head coach Chad Camper. “The women have recovered well from last weekend and look forward to continue to improve on the court.”
First serve against the Lions is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) in Florence, Ala. UNA is 2-7 overall and looking to snap a four-match slide. They lost to Troy (5-2) last weekend, the same Trojan squad the Mocs beat 4-2 on Sunday.
UTC is 2-0 in the all-time series with the Lions. Both previous matches were played in Chattanooga in 2008 and 2010. The Mocs won the last meeting 6-1.
Sunday’s match at Kennesaw State starts at 4:00 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga. The Owls are 2-5 overall but are 2-2 in their last four. They beat Georgia State (4-3) on Feb. 23 and lost to No. 23 Furman 6-1 on Feb. 27. They also had a 6-1 loss at Clemson on Feb. 28.
Ji Youn Lee is the reigning ASUN Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. She posted wins over Furman’s third-ranked MaryAnn Rompf (6-4, 6-4) and Clemson’s Sophia Hatton (6-3, 7-5) in last weekend’s action.
UTC is 8-0 all-time against Kennesaw State. These two teams met every year between 2012 and 2017. The Mocs are 3-0 on the road, including a 5-2 win in their last trip to Kennesaw on March 23, 2016.
