University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore Tomas Rodriguez is the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 1-7, the league office announced Monday. Rodriguez is the first Moc to be awarded player of the week twice in a season and the first to earn multiple player of the week honors in a career.
Rodriguez went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles as he led the Mocs to a pair of wins over UAB (7-0) and UNC Asheville (4-3). In singles play, the native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, won both of his matches in straight sets. He began the week with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UAB’s Roman Postolka on March 5 before earning a 6-2, 6-0 win over UNC Asheville’s Oli Nolan two days later.
In doubles play, Rodriguez and teammate Peyton Gatti won 7-5 over UNC Asheville’s top duo. Chattanooga (2-5) plays at Austin Peay on Tuesday, March 9, and at The Citadel on Sunday, March 14, in the Mocs’ conference opener.
