The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team dropped a 10-0 mid-week matchup to Eastern Kentucky at Frost Stadium today. The loss moves UTC to 4-9 overall, while the Colonels improved to 11-3.
The Mocs offense could not get going as UTC managed only one hit in the game. The Colonels put up 12 of their own, including four home runs in the win.
EKU opened with a run on three hits in the first. Vianna Barron singled through the left side to score Aiyana Miranda and give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. They added to it with a big boost in the top of the fourth when Jaelyn Sanders smacked a three-run blast over the centerfield fence.
The Colonels pushed to an 10-0 lead in the top of the fifth with three more homers. There were two on and one out when Barron hit a three-run shot to put UTC in a 7-0 hole.
Brooke Parrott came on for Mocs starter Hannah Wood, but Mollie Paulick made it 8-0 when she hit a 3-2 pitch over the wall. Two batters later, Jeanay Riley made it 10-0 with a two-run homer of her own.
UTC was unable to respond in the bottom half of the inning and fell 10-0 in five. The Mocs’ lone hit on the day was a single by Kailey Snell in the fourth inning.
Up next for Chattanooga is a double header at Georgia State on Saturday, March 13. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) in Atlanta, Ga.
