Women’s Golf Starts Out 4th at Sugar Bowl Event

The Chattanooga Mocs are off to a solid start at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. The Mocs turned in 303 over the opening 18 holes at English Turn Golf & Country Club.

Beatriz Barrios led the way with a level-par 72 posting two birdies and 14 pars. That’s tied for second overall behind Kate Smith of Nebraska’s 71.

She’s joined in the top 10 by Daphne van Son. Van Son is tied for 10th with 75, one better than Dorota Zalewska at 76. Esme Hamilton completed the 303 with an 80, while Rachel Thompson had the drop tally of 83.

Smith’s 71 led the Cornhuskers into the early lead with 294. Texas State is second at 296 with Rutgers in third, two ahead of the Mocs. Host Tulane and ULM are tied for fifth with 398.
