Women’s Golf Finishes 4th, Barrios Top 3 in New Orleans

The Chattanooga Mocs claimed fourth at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate behind three top 20 individual finishes. The final round 299 was the best of the three days completing the tournament with a 906 total.

Beatriz Barrios and Esme Hamilton paced Tuesday’s effort with 1-over par 73s. Daphne van Son chipped in 75 followed by 78 from Dorota Zalewska. Rachel Thompson’s 83 was the drop score.

Barrios shot 4-over 220 for the 54 holes ending with a career-best third-place ending. Van Son, tying for 17th, and Hamilton, tying for 20th, joined her in the top 20. Van Son tallied 227 which was one better than Hamilton’s 228. Zalewska ended up with 235, Thompson 243 and 254 for Jefimija Dordevic who played as an individual.

Nebraska claimed team title shooting 884. The Cornhuskers won by seven over Texas State with Tulane slotting between the Bobcats and Mocs. Rutgers was eight behind Chattanooga in fifth place. Nebraska’s Kate Smith won medalist honors with 1-under 215.

The Mocs are back in action next week at the Pinetree Collegiate. The 54 holes are played Monday and Tuesday, March 22-23, at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.
