Men’s Golf Improves to Third Finishing Furman Intercollegiate

The Chattanooga Mocs finished third Sunday at the Furman Intercollegiate. The 2-under 282 gave the squad a total of 857 which was just four off the pace set by Furman in first and two behind Florida Gulf Coast in third. Wofford fell to fourth at 860.

Alex Cobb paced today’s effort with 3-under 68. That was one ahead of A.J. Lintunen’s 69. Paul Conroy added 72 with Matt Smith’s 73 completing the counting numbers. Gabe Hunter had a 72 playing as an individual while Leon Bader’s 77 was the drop score.

Cobb tied for third overall with 2-under 211. Conroy wasn’t far behind in 11th at 214. Lintunen ended up in 14th at 3-over 216. Hunter was one shot out of the top 25 tying for 26th with 219, while Bader and Smith finished within a stroke of each other at 221 and 222, respectively.

The strong play over the last days is accentuated at the overall numbers in the field. Cobb’s 138 (-4) was best in the field as was his squad’s 563 total. The team accumulated 40 birdies which tied the season high set winning the J.T. Poston Invite in the fall. Cobb had a career-best 13 ending up one off the best total in the field of 14.

The Paladins Keller Harper was the wire-to-wire winner at 207. That was three clear of runner-up Jim Hopkins of Florida Gulf Coast and four ahead of Cobb and Ryan Marter (Wofford) in third. It was Cobb’s career-best finish.

Chattanooga completes the regular season April 11-12 at the Middle Tennessee Invitational. The two-event tackles Stones River Country Club in Murfreesboro. The postseason begins April 19-20 at the Southern Conference Championships at the Oconee Course at the Reynolds Lake Oconee complex in eastern Georgia.
