Today, Tora-i (formally known as Tora) releases her first single of the year. A deeply moving track that touches on a personal tale of self-discovery and growth, “Serial” is sure to resonate with her listeners. Born from warmth, the song speaks on the need to accept uncomfortable realities. The song was produced alongside LA producer Josh Grant and mixed by industry heavyweight Dan Parry (Adele, Wizkid, Sam Smith).
An ultimate perfectionist, Tora-i’s careful and deliberate artistic touch is unmistakable in every aspect of this offering. This vision was brought to life with friend and frequent collaborator Aliyah Otchere (Vein, Pistonia Prologue) who co-directed the accompanying visual, shot in and around London.
With her skill as a songwriter paired with her clear and definite vision, “Serial” is a track that is equal parts comfortable nostalgia and somber beauty. Tora-i and Grant worked closely on creating the nostalgic sonic landscape that demands multiple listens to be fully comprehended.
Speaking on the song, Tora-i says: “It was co-directed by Aliyah and I. I initially started writing it in 2019, we knew it had potential but Josh (producer) moved back to the US and general life happened so I didn’t pick it back up properly until late last year. It was probably the hardest song to write as I was in such a different space from when I began. I was very emotionally/ creatively detached last year for obvious reasons and also I really wanted this one to be right as it felt like one of the most earnest songs I’ve written so far. ‘Serial’ is about the initial reaction to realizing that everything that you once thought to be true was not. Fight, flight or blindly both.”
