Today, West London rapper Lord Apex shares a new video from his latest project, Smoke Sessions Vol. 3, which OkayPlayer said “shows a willingness to confront the traumas from his childhood and triumphantly stare them down.” Co-directed by Aboveground and Max Robin and shot on 16 millimeter film, “Speak For Yourself” is a masterful, soft-spoken portrait of the artist as it montages together vignettes of Lord Apex around Paris, France. The video is the second from the project following the self-directed visual for “Like You Know.”
2021 sees Apex poised as an artist to watch. He released the aforementioned Smoke Sessions Vol. 3, the follow-up to 2019’s Smoke Sessions Vol. 2 which Complex said sounds like his “low-slung, crunchy rap beats have only gotten better,” and was included on Complex UK’s Rappers to Watch for the year. He also released the deluxe version of his project, Supply & Demand, in early February which featured new collaborations with Westside Gunn & Fly Anakin. A UK tour sponsored by Carhartt Work In Progress is also set for later this year.
