Today, Rejjie Snow releases his new album Baw Baw Black Sheep via Honeymoon. Featuring the late MF DOOM, Tinashe, Snoh Aalegra, grouptherapy., the album includes production from Cam O’bi and Dee Lilly and the previously released singles “Disco Pantz,” “Mirrors,” “Relax” and “Cookie Chips.”
“I approached [Baw Baw Blacksheep] lightheartedly from the point of view of making a short film through music,” Snow explains. “I always loved Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. I watch it all the time. I thought of Baw Baw Black Sheep like a soundtrack to it. I put the movie on with my album, and they synced up perfectly. I tried to tap into all of these feelings. The music is really colorful, and the lyrics are often happy, because that was my state of mind.”
Alongside the album, Rejjie Snow is also releasing an accompanying short film titled reaching up to heaven with a broken wrist. The film is directed and edited by Matter Research.
Baw Baw Black Sheep is the follow up to Rejjie’s 2018 debut album Dear Annie, which NPR called “stunning” and named one of the best rap albums of the year. That album took him on a tour across the world with sold-out stops at Baby’s All Right in New York, The Roxy in LA and a performance at Goldenvoice’s inaugural Blurry Vision Festival in Oakland.
