Chattanooga Soccer Hosts Jacksonville State Wednesday

The Chattanooga women’s soccer team will welcome Jacksonville State for its final preseason exhibition match Wednesday at the UTC Sports Complex.

The Mocs traveled to Nashville Sunday for their first look and fell 2-0 to the 18th-ranked Commodores. Chattanooga held Vandy scoreless for the first 40 minutes and allowed one goal in the second and another in the third period of three 30-minute periods at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

The Mocs returned SoCon Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Shaw along with all-freshman team members Ao Yamada and Kendra Mueller. Keepers Ashton Shields and Abbey Walker are back in the net and on defense, AK Anderson and Avery Catlett join Shaw in the back field.

Samantha Shaw is the Mocs’ top returning scorer from 2020. She will be joined by All-SoCon Tournament selections Mackenzie Smith and Shelby Hash as well as Grace Klippenstein, Julia Perrusquia and Maddie Burman.

Head coach Gavin McKinney added seven newcomers in the offseason and looks for them to make significant contributions as the Mocs are in the hunt for the league title. UTC had its best finish in program history last year at third.

The game will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and admission is free.
