Samantha Shaw Named Socon Offensive Player Of The Month

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga forward Samantha Shaw was selected the Southern Conference women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Month for August, the league office announced today.

Shaw, a junior, scored all three goals for the Mocs in the month of August, using just three shots to do so. She recorded the game-winner in a 1-0 win over UAB in the season opener on Aug. 19. The native of Columbia, South Carolina, netted the Mocs’ lone goal in a 2-1 setback at Belmont on Aug. 27 and netted the game-winner and golden goal in a 1-0 overtime win at Tennessee Tech on Aug. 29.

The Mocs (2-4) hit the road Friday to take on North Alabama in Florence before retuning home to host No. 19 Tennessee Sunday evening.

Furman defender Camryn Bolick was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. She started all three games for the Paladins and was part of defense that did not allow a goal in 270 minutes. She recorded her first career assist in a 3-0 win at Presbyterian.

Also nominated for offensive player of the month: Sophie Saldivar (The Citadel), Hannah Farr (Furman), Payton Schurr (Mercer), Taylor Yount (Samford), Riley Flanagan (VMI), Kirsten Hahn (Western Carolina) and Katie Gilligan (Wofford).

Also nominated for defensive player of the month: Megan McLaughlin (The Citadel), Sydney Somogyi (ETSU), Jordyn Ebert (Mercer), Morgan McAslan (Samford) and Melody Mezzina (Western Carolina).
