Today, Mild High Club shares the video for “It’s Over Again,” the latest animation to be released accompanying Mild High Club’s first album in four years, Going Going Gone, out now via Stones Throw. The album marks his first body of work since his 2017 collaborative album with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Sketches from Brunswick East, and includes previously-released singles “A New High,” featuring Winter, “Dionysian State” and “Me Myself and Dollar Hell.”
The surreal animated video was created by Dr D Foothead. He says: “I wanted to explore a parallel world where sensation is overflowing into the surrounding civilization. This place is visited by androgynous avatars who drink a cultural ambrosia. There is a communal abandonment to the sensation and transformation which the ambrosia offers: a society lost in a hedonistic dionysian haze, absorbed and distorted by the cultural honey we all imbibe. There is a sweetness and a joy and a transformation but something dark and uncomfortable hides in the shadows.”
The video for “It’s Over Again” mirrors Going Going Gone’s concerns around our current accelerated timeline. The album addresses head-on themes of climate apocalypse, the nightmare of American individualism, and corporate greed with an uncanny, surrealist touch and biting sense of satirical humour. Drawing on Brazilian folk and avant-garde, AOR and psychedelic rock from the 1970s, Going Going Gone is also Mild High Club’s most musically ambitious album to date.
