The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team are tied for fourth at the Evie Odom Invitational. The ladies shot the low round of the campaign with 285 at Princess Anne Country Club which was matched by Coastal Carolina.
It was Dorota Zalewska’s day. She shot 2-under 68 to tie her career best as well as the Mocs season low through seven cards. She had five birdies on the day closing strong with three coming over the last six holes (13, 16 & 18).
Her 68 was supported by Esme Hamilton, Megan Docherty and Beatriz Barrios. Hamilton shot 71, one ahead of Docherty’s 72 which ties her season best. Barrios birdied 17 and 18 to complete her 74. Carolina Hortian had the drop score of 77.
“We played really well for 16 holes,” Coach Colette Murray explained. “We let some leak at the end, but we have two more rounds to try to get it back.”
The Mocs and Chanticleers are nine strokes behind early leader Sacramento State (276). Charlotte is second with 282, while UCF is third, one stroke ahead of the duo in fourth. UCF’s Tunrada Piddon is the individual leader at 67. She’s got a one-stroke lead over Zalewska and three others.
Round two starts at 8:55 a.m., on the first with Hortian opening the festivities. Barrios (9:06), Docherty (9:17), Hamilton (9:28) and Zalewska (9:39) as the Mocs play with Coastal Carolina and South Florida.
