Chattanooga Mocs junior Dorota Zalewska is on a good run to start the 2021-22 season. Well, it actually dates back further into the end of the 2020-21 campaign, but facts are facts. Zalewska shares this week’s Southern Conference Golfer of the Week award which was announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The native of Szczecin, Poland had a career-best performance at the Evie Odom Invitational. She fired a 4-under 206 which was one off the school record. She set the 36-hole mark with 135 opening with rounds of 68 and 67 before finishing Tuesday’s final 18 at 71.
“Dori had yet another great performance,” Coach Colette Murray shared. “She is really starting to come into her own. It’s really fun to watch.”
Zalewska led the event with 14 birdies, also a career high. It’s her second top 3 of the season and third in her last four events dating back to tying for third in the SoCon Championships in April. She now has three rounds in the 60s and five par or better on the season in just nine cards.
This is her second honor of the season. Oddly enough, she shared that one as well with teammate Esme Hamilton as the duo dueled for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate title before tying for second. This week’s award also goes to Tara Bettle of UNCG who also shared third-place at the Evie Odom closing with a tournament-record 63 to move 16 spots up the leaderboard into a tie with Zalewska and Old Dominion’s Jana Melichova.
The Mocs are off for three weeks before completing the fall Oct. 25-26 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. The event is played at Turtle Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island, S.C.
