Chattanooga Men’s Golf Opens With 2 Under Aat ETSU

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team got off to a solid start at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Mocs made their way around the Blackthorn Club in 2-under 286 which matched N.C. State on the day.

Braedon Wear, fresh off his first collegiate win, led the squad with a 2-under 70. He’s now 12 under over his last 72 holes. That was one clear of Gabe Hunter’s 71 which was one better than Paul Conroy levelling at 72. That was one ahead of the final counting card of 73 by Matt Smith who topped the drop tally by Connor Nolan by…you guessed it one. Leon Bader joined in the chain shooting 75 as an individual.

Chattanooga started its day on the 10th and got off to a good start. All five student-athletes were par or better over the first five to seven holes at 3 under as a group.

The middle holes bit back with the group dropping to 2 over through 12-14. They finished as strong as they started with seven birdies down the stretch to gain four shots and ending at 286.

The Mocs and Wolfpack are tied for ninth, one behind UAB in eighth. The pair are one ahead of Maryland in 12th at 1 under with 11 of the 15 schools in the field breaking par over the opening 18. Louisville and host ETSU have the lead with 277. Eight individuals carded 4-under 68 to take the early player lead, two ahead of Wear.

Round two in the three-day, 54-hole event begins Monday morning.
