The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is in the mix again after a strong day at the Battle at Black Creek. The lads fired 10-under 278 to move into second place with a 10-under total of 566. That’s four back of UT Martin in first at 562.
The morning Mocs level-par 288 was paced by Paul Conroy and Braedon Wear with 71. Connor Nolan was close behind at 72 with 74 from Matt Smith completing the team card. Leon Bader had the drop score with 80.
Bader came back strong in the afternoon. He matched Smith with 3-under 69s. Add in two 70s from Conroy and Wear for 10 under. Nolan turned in 73 for the drop tally.
Conroy and Wear are tied for 10th at 3 under. Smith is tied for 20th, two behind the pair with 143. Nolan is another two back with 145, while Bader sits at 149.
Four individuals are in action as well. Gage Winkler shot 74 and 71 for 145, while Gabe Hunter had 77 and 70 to shoot 147. Alex Cobb’s 148 came from 75 and 73 cards, as Parker Highsmith scored 152 shooting 81 and 71.
The Skyhawks matched the Mocs and Western Carolina for low round of the day with the second round 278 followed an early 284. Tennessee Tech is third at 8 under which is two better than fourth-place Southern Miss with 570 (-6).
Tuesday’s final 18 starts at 8:30 a.m., on the first hole. Dalton State, Stetson and a collection of individuals get the day started. The Mocs take the tee at 11:40 a.m., paired with UTM, TTU and Southern Miss.
