Fly Anakin Shares New Single “Sean Price”

Today, Fly Anakin opens up a new musical chapter for himself with his new single “Sean Price.” Produced by Evidence, the new track sees Anakin gliding over a soulful instrumental, delivering his lyrics with the vigor and technical prowess as he has over the course of his extensive discography to date. The song is also an ode to Brooklyn rapper Sean Price, who was a formative musical influence for him. The new song also sets the tone for Anakin’s forthcoming new LP, slated for early 2022.

Speaking on Price’s influence on his music, Anakin says, “Sean Price inspired me to stand on what I believe in and say whatever I feel no matter what type of beat it is. His influence put me in the driver’s seat, I grew wings and shit.”

The single is accompanied by a new video directed by No Fun (Tahjee Wallace & DuctTape Jesus) and was shot in Brooklyn as an homage to the Sean Price, who was one half of Heltah Skeltah and an integral member of the Boot Camp Clik. “Sean Price” follows Anakin’s self-produced EP Pixote, which Stereogum called “a lovely and insular work of deep head-nod rap,” and his critically-acclaimed joint album with Pink Siifu FlySiifu’s and their followup $mokebreak EP, continuing his prolific run of solo and collaborative releases at the core of the Richmond, VA collective Mutant Academy.

Along with the single’s release, Fly Anakin will also be performing live on Rolling Stone’s Twitch as part of their Battle of the Bands series this afternoon at 5pm ET. The Twitch performance marks the latest in a series of live shows he’s performed at over the course of September and October, including dates with Curren$y, Roc Marciano, YUNGMORPHEUS, Domo Genesis, Evidence & more.
