Paige Gallentine has done it again. The second-year libero has been named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. The league office announced the award on Monday afternoon.
Gallentine led all SoCon players with 5.75 digs per set last week. She began the week with 23 digs and four assists in UTC’s five-set win over Mercer. The Fenton, Mich. native followed that up with a 23-dig performance in just three sets at Samford. She also added five assists in that contest.
This is the third weekly accolade this season for Gallentine. She joins Rachel Evans (1996) and Paula Passimore as the only Mocs with three SoCon weekly honors in a single season.
She has posted 20 digs or more in each of her last four matches. Gallentine is the only libero with 23 or more digs in a three-set SoCon match this season… she’s done it twice.
“Paige has continued to be a leader defensively for this team throughout the season,” Head Coach Travis Filar said. “She puts effort into everything she does, on and off the court, and that has translated to her success on gameday.”
The Mocs return to Maclellan Gym for the start of the final week of the regular season tomorrow, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. vs. ETSU.
