Chattanooga’s Maia Rackel earned All-Southern Conference Second Team accolades after leading the indoor volleyball squad with 3.09 kills per set this season. The coaches voted on the award which was announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Rackel entered the season primarily as a middle blocker but transitioned to play all six rotations, picking up five double-doubles. The Signal Mountain native averaged 1.78 digs per set and 0.59 blocks per set defensively. Her 20 solo blocks led the team and her 68 total blocks were second on the squad.
Rackel’s 3.09 kills per set was ninth in the league, while her 359 kills were third. She is one of four SoCon players to post 25 or more kills in a match this season. She tied her career-high with 25 against Western Illinois on Sept. 4.
UNCG’s Kayla White was named the SoCon Player of the Year and the Spartans’ head coach Corey Carlin took home Coach of the Year honors. Mercer’s Megan Smith was tabbed Libero of the Year and The Citadel’s Ali Ruffin was awarded the Rayna Taylor Freshman of the Year.
Rackel is the first Moc to pick up All-Conference accolades since 2018 when Dani Szczepanski earned second team honors. Gylian Finch and Jaquelyn Langhaim were selected to the all-freshman team that season.
