-It was a blustery day in paradise. That was yesterday’s lede and make the times two today. The Chattanooga Mocs turned in a team score of 333 on a day that Albany Golf Club allowed just 20 student-athletes to break 80 in round two of Auburn’s Nexus Collegiate.
One of those 20 was the Mocs own Leon Bader. His 79 moved him up five places on the leaderboard into a tie for 17th with a 2-day total of 157 playing as an individual.
The low score on the team’s competing roster came via Braedon Wear. The freshman just missed joining Bader on the exclusive list by one shot carding an 80. That was two better than teammates Paul Conroy and Gabe Hunter and nine clear of the final counting score turned in by the pair of Parker Highsmith and Alex Cobb.
Conroy is still in the top 10. He sits in 10th with a 153 total, four ahead of Bader. It’s eight off the pace set by Ohio State’s Maxwell Moldovan in first with 145. Auburn has the team lead at 605, three ahead of the Buckeyes.
“The weather continues to be the story of the tournament,” interim head coach Miles Moseley acknowledged. “It’s the most challenging conditions I’ve seen. We’ll continue to battle and try to be patient, but it’s an unbelievably difficult test right now.”
Wednesday’s final round is an 8 a.m., shotgun start. 18 starts at 7:45 a.m., on the 10th hole for the Mocs playing alongside the Hoosiers and Gamecocks. Braedon Wear starts us off followed by Gabe Hunter, Alex Cobb, Highsmith, Conroy and Bader in successive groups. Pairings linked above.
