The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team finished in a 3-way tie for 13th at the Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club. The Mocs 911 total was matched by Iowa and Middle Tennessee at the 3-day, 54-hole event.
Carolina Hortian was low for the group today with a 1-over total of 73. Esme Hamilton had 75, while Megan Docherty and Dorota Zalewska both added 77 for the 302 finish.
Hamilton led the overall scoring for the home crew with 223. That was one better than Docherty’s 225 with Zalewska another shot back at 225. Hortian totaled 239.
UTSA captured the team title in an absolute duel down the stretch with North Florida. The Roadrunners won by a single shot and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where the winning stroke came from. UTSA’s Ana Gonzalez scored hole-in-one on No. 17. She played the 130-yard shot with a pitchng wedge to perfection making the final difference in the win.
Anne Chen ran away with the medalist trophy. She fired a 6-under 66 to end up at 9 under for the three days winning by five over Gonzalez and East Carolina’s Kathryn Carson at 212.
The Mocs return to the tee April 4-5 at the Brickyard Classic in Macon, Ga. It’s the group’s final tune up before the Southern Conference Championships April 17-19 in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
