UTC Softball Drops Contest to Tennessee Tech, 5-3

The Chattanooga Mocs’ softball team was unable to overcome a 5-0 third-inning deficit against the visiting Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Frost Stadium. The Golden Eagles took the game 5-3.

Chattanooga dropped to 21-19 overall, while Tennessee Tech improved to 27-14.

The Mocs are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20 as they make a trip to Auburn, Ala. to face the 19th-ranked Auburn Tigers at 5 p.m. EST.

Tennessee Tech opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs, one earned on two hits and two walks. After the Golden Eagles got out of a jam in the first, both teams were kept off the base path in the second.

The visitors added to its lead in the third inning with two outs. Savannah Talley belted a three-run home run just inside the foul pole down the right field line, giving Tennessee Tech a 5-0 lead through three frames.

In the fourth, the Mocs got their first two hitters on when Olivia Lipari stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run home run over the left center field fence, bringing the Mocs within two.




Neither team scored in the final three innings, as Tennessee Tech’s Tyler Erwin threw four shutout innings in relief.

Lipari led the squad with two hits and three RBI. Emily Coltharp and Acelynn Sellers recorded the other two hits for the Mocs.

Tennessee Tech was led by Talley’s three-run homer, one of two Golden Eagles with two hits in the contest.
