The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is off to Reynolds Lake Oconee in search of the seventh Southern Conference Championship in school history. The Mocs and the eight-team field tackle the Oconee Course in Greensboro, Ga.
The 3-day, 54-hole event is culmination of a 7-month trek for the program. The starting lineup consists of Paul Conroy, Braedon Wear, Connor Nolan, Alex Cobb and Leon Bader. The Mocs have one team win (Battle of Black Creek) and one individual (Wear at the J.T. Poston Invite) although there have been several near misses.
The program won in 1987, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013. Individually, Donnie Green captured medalist honors in the Mocs first SoCon Tournament in 1978 and current PGA TOUR pro Stephan Jaeger ’12 also won it in 2012.
Conroy is the team’s scoring leader at 72.26 strokes per round with Wear not far behind at 73.04 followed by Nolan (74.33). Cobb is the team’s leader in pars per round (11.07), while Bader brings an ability to go low as one of five Mocs to record cards in the 60s this season.
