UTC Beach Volleyball Blanks Eastern Illinois, Suffers Narrow Setback to Austin Peay

Chattanooga Mocs’ beach volleyball team opened OVC Weekend at Austin Peay with a 5-0 victory over Eastern Illinois before falling to the hosts 3-2 in the Mocs’ afternoon match.

In the first dual, the 3-5 pairs all swept their matches. Victoria Cerino and Madi Morris began the contest with a 21-11, 21-19 win before Julia Davis and Joy Courtright won in straight sets, 21-9, 21-16 at No. 5. At the No. 3 pair, Bailey Steger and Hanley Lomax won 21-11, 21-9.

Both of the top two spots went to three sets with Neva Clark and Gaige Gallentine winning at the No. 2 spot 15-5 in the third set and Gylian Finch and Baylee Young winning 15-11 in the final set at the top spot.

Against Austin Peay, the hosts won the No. 4 and 5 bouts before Gallentine and Clark won in three sets at No. 2. Steger and Lomax tied the match at two. Austin Peay took the match with a 15-10 third-set victory at the No. 1 pair.

The Mocs conclude the regular season tomorrow vs. Morehead State and UT-Martin.
