The Southern Conference announced its 2022 Men’s Golf Awards Monday afternoon with two Chattanooga Mocs prominent on the squad. Sophomore Paul Conroy earned his first All-SoCon award, while Braedon Wear made the All-Freshman squad.
Conroy just missed the fourth par/better season in school history finish at 3 over. His 72.00 scoring average ranks fifth all-time by score, fourth vs par (+0.10), while his 20 par or better cards this season are tied for fourth-most all-time with Oliver Simonsen ’19. Stephan Jaeger ’12, who is coming off a tie for 15th at the PGA TOUR’s Mexico Open, holds the record of 22 in 2011-12.
Wear is the first Mocs member of the All-Freshman squad since Lake Johnson in 2016. His 73.07 stroke average is the lowest in school history by a freshman. He claimed his first win at the J.T. Poston Invitational in September and added a near miss tying for fourth at the Jackrabbit Invitational in March.
Conroy awaits word on a potential NCAA Tournament bid as an individual. The selection show is Wednesday, May 4, at 4 p.m., on the Golf Channel. Host sites include the Traditions Club (Bryan, Texas), Scarlet Course (Columbus, Ohio), Yale Golf Course (New Haven, Conn.), PGA National (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), The Reserve at Spanos Park (Stockton, Calif.) and Jimmie Austin Golf Club (Norman, Okla.) with play May 16-18.
