The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced the full slate of the 2021-22 Scholar All-America Team and individual honorees for the Division I award. Drew Nicholson, Lincoln Heck and Weston Wichman were three Chattanooga Wrestlers that earned the accolade.
“I am very proud of these young men as they are all great representatives of Chattanooga Wrestling,” said Head Coach Kyle Ruschell. “To be great in our sport, you need to excel on and off the mat. Lincoln, Weston and Drew have embodied that this season and throughout their career.”
Nicholson was a NCAA Tournament At-Large Selection this season after posting an 18-9 record at 165 pounds. He went 11-3 in duals with a perfect 7-0 record in Southern Conference matches. After finishing second place at the SoCon Championships, he secured a spot for the second time in his career at the NCAA Championships. Nicholson is currently pursuing his master’s in construction management and holds a 3.6 GPA.
Heck went 10-6 this season at 157 pounds with a 3-1 mark in conference duals. He was 6-2 in dual competition with five bonus-point victories. Heck currently has a 3.87 GPA in accounting.
Wichman held a 12-7 mark overall and went 2-2 in league matches in 2021-22 at 157 pounds. He also competed at 165 pounds once this season and won that contest. He holds a 3.52 GPA in exercise science.
The three award winners mark 28 in program history. It’s the first time since the 2014-15 season UTC has had three wrestlers win the award in the same year.
