The Chattanooga Mocs softball team found themselves tied with the sixth-ranked and top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide through three innings in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Softball Tournament at Rhoads Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Crimson Tide plated two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to defeat the Mocs 3-0.
Chattanooga dropped to 29-26 overall and will face Murray State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EDT. Alabama improved to 42-11 and will battle Stanford tomorrow at 3 p.m. EDT.
Chattanooga was able to get a base runner on in every inning through the fourth. In the fourth frame, the Mocs began the inning with two on and no outs. Montana Fouts entered the circle for Alabama and set down the next three hitters.
Brooke Parrott started in the circle for Chattanooga and did not gave up a hit until the fourth inning. In the fourth, Bailey Dowling took a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left for Alabama’s first hit and run of the ballgame.
Izzy Alley entered the game with two on and no out and after a walk, Alabama doubled its lead with a sac fly to center.
In the fifth, the hosts added an insurance run as Jenna Lord singled down the left field line.
In Parrott’s NCAA Tournament debut, she went three complete innings and allowed two runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Emily Coltharp led the Mocs at the plate with a 2-for-4 outing. Kailey Snell, Reagan Armour, Olivia Lipari, Kaili Phillips and Gracey Kruse all added a base hit.
Fouts went 3.2 innings in the circle for Alabama and picked up the win. She allowed no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. The Crimson Tide starter, Alex Saiter, went 3.1 shutout innings and gave up four hits, a walk and registered one strikeout.
Alley tossed 1.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits with three walks and a strikeout. Hannah Wood pitched the final 1.2 innings. She allowed no runs on no hits two a strikeout and a pair of walks.
