UTC Soccer Gets First Look Tuesday at MTSU

With one week down and 12 more to go, the Chattanooga women’s soccer team will hit the road to face off against Middle Tennessee in an exhibition matchup Tuesday, August 9.

Head coach Gavin McKinney added 10 newcomers to the roster and return 18, including two-time All-Conference and 2020 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Shaw and all-freshman team member Sylvie Keck.

Six of the Mocs top eight scorers return to the lineup including Mackenzie Smith who led the team in points and assists. She was second in goals scored behind Samantha Shaw while Maggie Shaw was third in goals and points.

UTC will have Abbey Saddler in the net again while Ashton Shields, who suffered a season-ending injury in the opening game of 2021, is cleared to play between the pipes once again. Sydney Weinstein, also knocked out of the season with an injury last year, makes her return while the Mocs added newcomer Caroline Ekern.

Chattanooga is 2-1-1 all-time against the Blue Raiders and the two programs last faced off in the regular season in 1999. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time at the MTSU Dean A. Hayes Track Stadium.
