Alice Merton + Amazon Music Present ‘The Orangery Session’ EP, Heartfelt Making-Of Mini Documentary

Today, Amazon Music releases the Amazon Original EP The Orangery Session by German-Canadian singer Alice Merton. For the recording of the EP, the singer teamed up with Dublin based film production company Tiny Ark and recorded the songs live in a gorgeous orangery in Ireland.

The Orangery Session follows the release of Alice’s second album S.I.D.E.S. that launched on June 17, and showcases new versions of singles off said album, including her latest hit, “The Other Side”.  For Alice, “The Other Side” is a liberating anthem with which she wants to build a beautiful world, beyond the crises of recent years. The EP also features a new re-recording of her global breakout hit from 2016, “No Roots.” The track speaks about Alice’s lack of roots; by her own admission, she simultaneously feels at home everywhere and nowhere. Furthermore, the EP includes a cover of The Killers hit “When We Were Young” as well as new versions of other Alice stand-outs, “Mania” and “Letting You Know”.  Live performance videos of the tracks “The Other Side” and “No Roots”, recorded in Ireland, are simultaneously available on Amazon Music with the release of the EP.

Alongside the new EP comes a making-of mini-documentary on The Orangery Session, available via the Amazon Music app, as well as on the Amazon Music channel on YouTube. The documentary takes a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of the EP in Ireland, home of Alice’s recently deceased grandmother, who was one of her greatest inspirations and supporters throughout the 29-year-old performer’s career. The heartfelt mini-documentary follows the artist as she visits her grandmother’s grave and recounts the melancholy and difficult times she had to endure during the pandemic. At the same time, the production also gives a glimpse of a new and more liberated time, when she will be able to celebrate the world of music again.

Earlier this year, Alice Merton released her second album S.I.D.E.S. The album campaign saw Alice raise the bar from what she achieved with her debut album Mint, Top 10 chart positions across Europe, becoming a judge on The Voice of Germany, with some of her biggest moments in fresh territories, including a US tour with Bastille, a career-defining orchestral concert of her biggest songs with the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, and being named as Jo Whiley’s Infatuation on Radio 2.

Alice co-wrote and co-produced every song on the album, which also features some of her long-term collaborators as well as big names such as Koz (Dua Lipa), Jonny Coffer (Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding), Jennifer Decilveo (Anne-Marie, Andra Day), and mixed by Matt Green (Royal Blood, Dua Lipa The album is released on her own label, Paper Plane Records.

Alice Merton’s live plans continue with a major autumn European tour in support of S.I.D.E.S. Please see HERE for a full list of dates and ticket information.
