Maggie Cubillos Embraces Change On Debut Single “Old Shoes”

Singer-songwriter Maggie Cubillos is currently a junior at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. The 21-year-old Colombian/Cuban/American vocalist grew up in Hermosa Beach, a small Southern California coastal town, with its own rich musical history steeped in both jazz and punk rock.

Maggie’s first single, “Old Shoes”, is out November today, and was produced by Steve Ornest (who also plays guitar on the track) at LA’s Total Access Recording (Black Flag, No Doubt, Guns N’ Roses, Sublime) along with bassist Matt Rubano (Taking Back Sunday, Outasite, Lauryn Hill) and drummer Rob Humphreys (Kacey Musgraves Jason Mraz, Elle King).

Of her debut single, Maggie says, “‘Old Shoes’ is about embracing change and moving forward. I wrote it at a time in my life where I felt like everything around me had shifted and I had to decide whether I should stay afraid or embrace it and grow with it. I think writing this song helped me realize that sometimes change isn’t as scary as we think and there’s so many good things that can come from it.”
